The celebration of Alex & Becky

How did you two meet?
Bowdoin College Swing Dance Club
Why did you choose to get married at the location that you did?
We wanted to get married at Bowdoin. It’s a special place to both of us for many reasons – we met there, have many happy memories of the campus, and we keep going back for commencement every year as alumni.
Were there any happy surprises that happened at the wedding?
We had M&M gift bags that we gave out as favors – they had clip-on bows to secure the bag, and people wound up clipping the bows onto their hair, clothes, and beards!
After Becky’s dad toast, when people started getting dinner, Alex revealed that part of Becky’s dad’s toast was a prank that involved several wedding guests, including the groom (Becky’s dad asked a Harry Potter trivia question that he knew Becky wouldn’t be able to answer, and asked Alex and the
audience if they knew). Becky didn’t even notice Alex referring to his notes on his lap!
Becky almost started saying the ring giving part of the ceremony with Alex’s wrong hand! She realized it in time, and let everyone know she figured it out, which made for a good laugh 🙂
People started clapping during our cake-cutting to the beat of the song playing (Natalie Cole’s “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)”. We weren’t sure why they were clapping, but we turned around and saw Becky’s 1-year-old niece Riley, the Flower Girl, dancing in the middle of the dance floor having a grand old time.
Alex & Paul Wade, a friend of Becky’s mom, had a sort of “dance-off” at the beginning of dancing which Becky found absolutely amazing and entertaining.
Even though we met dancing, we hadn’t practiced at all for the wedding. We weren’t sure what we would be doing when we had our grand entrance or our first dance. Basically, Alex made up stuff and Becky copied him and it went great!
From Matt & David’s toast: “[Becky] said ‘Yes to the Latendresse.’”
There was one thing that happened right at the very end of dancing – Jon played our second-to-last song and had all the guests that were still remaining form a circle linking arms around us. The song was “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran, and as we danced to it, our guests started singing the lyrics together and it was so amazing and beautiful that Becky burst into tears multiple times.
What moment sticks out to you above all of the others from the wedding?
Alex: The ceremony & the dancing
Becky: Either outside at the first look when we were reading our cards, or dancing together, or kissing on the dance floor
Now that the wedding is over, what are you going to do with all of your free time?!
What’s this “free time” we keep hearing about?! Finish unpacking our first apartment together! (That is turning out to be a longer journey than we had expected!)
